When my little brother was around four or five, he used to put his hand up close to his face, squint one eye and ever so cautiously inch up his middle finger and say… “I’m thinkin’ it.”
I can’t remember if he actually ever fully did it, but the memory makes us all laugh to this day.
What does this story have to do with online typing jobs?
Not much other than the whole concept of fingers doing something.
I actually took a class in early high school to learn how to type… and, no, it wasn’t on a typewriter.
It was a computer keyboard typing class and the teacher was an older gentleman who would call out the letters almost to a drum beat.
It was annoying, but I did learn how to type.
Little did I know back then that this man was actually giving me a skill that I could use to make money in my later life.
As simple as it sounds, you can make money online by using the fundamental skill of typing.
You will obviously have to type well, with correct grammar and with a decent amount of speed, but it is a skill that almost everyone has at this point and if not, can easily be learned.
You may be thinking that this all sounds good and well, but the only thing out there that people are promoting sounds scammy or will pay too low of an hourly wage.
There are definitely those things out there, but there are also legit online typing jobs that you can rely on to make a decent side income, or even a full-time income.
There is no get rich quick scheme to any of this, but below are a few of the solid online typing jobs that I would consider as potential candidates to entertain.

Legit Online Typing Jobs
Online Data Entry
I’m going to start with the easiest one first.
Data entry is one of the OG easy legit online typing jobs.
You don’t need to have any fantastical skills to get an online data entry job, so that makes it low barrier to start, but it is also probably not going to pay the highest.
That being said, you also probably don’t have to put forth that much effort either. So, if you are looking for an easy online typing job, this is your best bet.
To get a job in data entry, you will be given raw data that you have to enter into spreadsheets or databases where needed. Having knowledge of Microsoft Excel or database software will help, but is not necessary.

Online Transcriptionist
If you’ve ever been on TikTok or Instagram, you’ve seen everyone and their brother promoting transcriptionist jobs.
They say that you can just sign up to be a transcriptionist, use an online program to do the transcribing for you, and away you go to $3,000/week.
This whole scenario is of course smoke and mirrors.
Being a transcriptionist is one of the most legit online typing jobs, but it isn’t as easy as having a computer program just doing it for you.
If you want to be a transcriptionist, you will be listening to audio and then typing it out so there is a written record.
You will need to be very detail orientated and have good listening skills, obviously.
If you can type relatively fast, you can definitely make a decent amount of money.

Online Freelance Writer / Copywriter
Being a freelance writer is the ultimate typing job.
Yes, writing requires a little more thought than just simply typing, but typing is the main thing you will be doing.
You don’t need any fancy equipment and you are only limited by what is in your head.
If you are a freelance writer or copywriter, you are also calling all your own shots.
You can take only the jobs that you want to for the amount of stress that you want to endure.
Freelance writing can also encompass so many different things. You can write ad copy, social media copy, newsletters, emails, blog posts for others, novels, ghostwriting, etc… Anything and everything that someone might need to have written for them that they can’t or don’t feel like doing.
You don’t need a fancy degree or any special background, but you will need some examples of your work. So, even if you’ve never had a formal “job” in freelance writing, write up a few mock-up pieces that would be of something you would hope to do for someone else.

Blogging Online
If you’re reading this blog, you know that I’m a big fan of blogging.
And, if you’re reading this blog, you’re also a fan of the info that blogs can provide.
By starting a blog, you are basically starting your own website where you can write useful content for anyone and everyone to read. In essence, blogging is simply writing and typing. That makes it one of my favorite legit online typing jobs.
You will want to pick a subject that you know a bit about or that you have a passion for because you will be generating a lot of content centered around your subject.
By writing helpful blog posts, you can then start to make money by displaying ads on your site, promoting products through affiliate marketing, or selling your own products.
With blogging comes a lot of freedom because you don’t really have anyone to answer to. It is your own website business and you can do with it what you want. The only people you have to appease are your readers.
More views = more money. Usually.
The one drawback with blogging is that it can take a long time to make good money from it. You definitely have to think about the long game here.
Expect at least six months, but probably more like a year of consistent weekly blog posts before you see much money.
It can be a slog, but the upside potential is infinite. And, you have then built something concrete that can generate you revue for years and years with minimal effort. Passive income dream right there.

Captioning / Subtitle Writing
A little tidbit of info about me: I usually watch TV and movies with the captions on.
If my husband and I are watching a movie, or I am watching something by myself for that matter, I find that I can follow the story ten times better if I know exactly what they are saying. This way there is no rewinding or pausing to ask questions, which my husband just loves…
If you want to write captions, that means you are listening to the video audio and transcribing it to written word. (See transcriptionist above which is similar).
This could be internet videos, Youtube, social media, etc… or it could be movies or TV shows.
This could also be captioning videos for people whose first language is not English (or your native language) to help them broaden their audience.

Online Translator
As with captioning above, non-native speakers who are producing content will at one time or another most likely need a translator to type everything out for them in another language.
I put this one last because it obviously requires a specific skill set, but the basics of the job are typing.
You will need to know your native language plus have a very strong working knowledge of another.
This is one of the better paying legit online typing jobs, so if you have the skills, it is a great one to check out.

Make Money Online Typing
A lot of people don’t think they have the skills to make money online, but this article is to try to prove that they do. They just don’t know it yet.
Typing is a skill that many of us learned way back when, that can be beneficial now to help dig us out of financial holes, or start us on a whole new income path.
The legit online typing jobs above can be done full-time or part-time and have varying degrees of difficulty, but none of them are completely out of reach.
So, instead of “thinkin’ it” at someone, why not put those fingers to a keyboard and make some money online instead.
